The 5-Minute Plantar Fasciitis Solution
• Find out exactly what plantar
fasciitis is in Chapter 1.
If you’re like a lot of my patients, you probably have trouble even saying the words “plantar fasciitis”– I know I did when I came across them in physical therapy school. So, let’s start there. Plantar fasciitis is commonly pronounced plan-tar fash-eye-tiss. Breaking it down, the word plantar refers to the sole of the foot. Fasciitis, on the other hand, is a combination of the word “fascia” (Latin for band), with the suffix “itis” tacked on the end–which refers to inflammation. Put ‘em all together, and you’ve got two words that mean inflammation of the bands on the sole of your foot. But while this is what plantar fasciitis means literally, a careful review of the published research shows us that this is actually not a good description at all of what is going on. Nope, the plain truth of the matter is that many, many studies have conclusively shown that there is in fact no inflammation involved when one has “plantar fasciitis.” Surprised? You’re not alone. Confused? You won’t be for long. Skeptical? Well, I consider that a good thing. In my book, I’ll explain exactly what this annoying condition is, what you can do about it, and back up everything I say with published research and clinical studies. This is probably the single most important piece of information to know when it comes to unlocking the mystery of getting rid of plantar fasciitis: it is realizing that the main problem is actually one of failed healing, not inflammation, means that a successful treatment must be one that creates a healing environment for the plantar fascia to finally repair itself. My book will do just that... |
